Mission Statement

The mission of Planning and Assessment is to encourage and promote a culture of assessment that is embraced by the entire community and includes faculty, staff, administration, and students. The primary purpose driving assessment and planning is to assure institutional fidelity with purpose, practice, and performance. Underlying principles guiding an assessment culture are:

• Assessment is a process of renewal and regeneration within the institution.
• Assessment is principally to inform: it is a means that enables individuals and units to improve the quality of the educational experience and the programs and services of the University.
• The assessment culture should be reflective of the 'best practice' in assessment and evaluation and in data-informed decision-making within the context of a dynamic academic system, and designed to create and sustain an atmosphere of trust and openness.
• Successful assessment efforts assure confidence in the institution's ability to fulfill its mission and achieve its objectives; assessment authenticates the credibility and vitality of the institution to its constituencies and to the academy; indeed, assessment is a means whereby we take account of our stewardship.
