Remote Desktop Instructions

The following steps are for PCs.  For Linux and Mac computers, Remote Desktop connections are similar.

To connect to the remote desktop in Windows XP, go to Start.  Scroll over to All Programs.  Go to Accessories, and Communications.  There you should find “Remote Desktop Connection”.  It may be helpful for you to pin “Remote Desktop Connection” to your start menu, by right clicking on the item on the Start menu and select “Pin to Start menu”.  Click on “Remote Desktop Connection” to login.

Logging In

First you will need to tell the computer which desktop you want to connect to.  Type kronpterm.byu.edu as the computer name.  The go to “Options”.   Under the Display tab, drag the slider all the way to the right to go to Full Screen.   Under the Experience tab, choose your connection speed accordingly.  If you are on campus at BYU click on LAN.  If you are off-campus choose broadband or any of the slower connections.  Under the General tab you may choose to save the current connection settings.  Once you have setup the correct settings, click “Connect”.

A notice for users will appear.  Click “OK”.  Now type in your BYU Route Y- ID and your BYU-ID password.  Change the “Log on to” drop down menu to “E-X-C-H”.
